5 reasons why you MUST claim your Google Places

Something that has been really bugging me lately is that I am seeing quite a few of our clients Google Places pages targeted by outsiders who are out to benefit from their ignorance. Some of these customers have been ranking Number 1 in their local area for their particular keywords when suddenly they drop off the map. How could they drop off the map? Well, sadly, if you haven't claimed your Google Places page, then other people can access it and make changes to it - and some of these are malicious attacks. Once you have claimed it, only you can make changes to the listing.

1. Prevent malicious attacks. If you claim your place you can then stop people trying to maliciously damage your business. Claiming your Google Places page is very easy to do - don't put it off or it could be used against you.

This is great advice, I have seen a number of sites attacked and their rankings end up dropping.

I see lots of small businesses that don't bother to claim their site. These days it is a bit of a no brainer if you ask me.
