Good search engine rankings take a lot of hard work

Hi 123 2 WEB blog readers, As with most things in life, if you want to achieve good rankings on the major search engines you will need to follow the rules and put in a lot of hard work.

A number of years back if you wanted to achieve a good ranking you would come up with a bunch of keywords that described what you wanted to be found for and crammed them into your keyword meta tags. These days Google reportedly doesn't use meta mag keywords to determine ranking at all.

To get the most out of your website and generate more traffic you need to do a variety of things. Here are a few suggestions:

You need to get your web developer to structure your website according to the best practice guidelines that have been laid out by the major search engines. This would include having your keywords included in page titles and potentially including them in your domain name. Your website designer should also make use of header tags within their code along with having descriptive attributes for any pictures or graphics used on the site. They should also try to include your main keywords in the sites directory names and filenames.

A reasonably obvious one is that you should make sure that your website includes enough relevant copy. When you write copy you should make sure that you mention quite clearly what your website does and use the keywords that you think your customers will use when they try to find you. Your web designer should be able to advise you on what is the right amount of copy and how often you should use your keywords.

Another thing to keep in mind is that your website designer needs to make sure that your site has relevant links to sites with related content. If you are a tradesperson you may want to link to associations that you are involved with or potentially governing bodies within your profession. You should also try to have relevant links within your site. For example, if you refer to your privacy policy you should have a link through to your privacy policy.

Finally, you need to get the word out about your business. You need to blog about your site, you need to participate in online forums, write articles if possible or potentially get third parties to review your business. You can also create Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter pages for your business and post updates about what you are up to. These updates/blogs/articles also need to be ongoing. It is not enough to simply write one blog or article and then forget about them. You will need to do them consistently to increase your rankings.

As I said at the beginning of this blog, most good things require hard work. The items that I have covered are just a small selection of the things that you can do however if you try them and persevere then you will start to see improvements.
